Race Details
| When: | Monday June 9, 2008 - Gympie. |
| What: | An 18.5 km foot race against the famous 'Valley Rattler' Steam Train. Includes an individual run or team challenge. Teams are made up of 4 competitors and each member completes approximately 4.5 km. |
| Registration: | Sunday, June 8th between 2.00 pm and 4.00 pm and Monday, June 9th between 7.00 am and 8.00 am. |
| Time: | Train departs Gympie Station for Dagun at 8.00 am with the first 300 runners to register. Other runners and supporters are taken by bus to the start of the race. The race begins at 9.30 am from Dagun. First runners cross the finish line shortly after 10.30 am and competitors and supporters will enjoy entertainment throughout the day at the old Gympie Station. 11.30 am - Course timing closes. 12.00 noon - Presentations and random draws. Buses will transport the team challenge runners to their changeover points from Dagun. Food will be available at both Dagun and Gympie Stations. |

Supporter's tickets are also available. Supporters Tickets - Adults - $15 each Supporters Tickets - Children - $7.50 each Supporters Tickets - Corporate Carriage - $25 per person - (includes muffins, tea & coffee etc). - Note: No discount for children in the Corporate Carriage Supporters are transported to Dagun by bus then board the 'Valley Rattler' to cheer on the runners as they make their way back to the old Gympie Station. |

Race Information
Gympie, home of the Valley Rattler, will again host an event with a difference on Monday, June 9th, 2008 with the running of the annual Valley Rattler Gympie Challenge from the Mary Valley Township of Dagun to the old Gympie Railway Station.
The “Challenge“ is an 18.5 km foot race from the Mary Valley Township of Dagun, running against the C17 Steam Train with a contingent of supporters aboard. Tremendous prize money to be won.
A “Team Challenge” will again be part of the event with 4 runners per team, each team member having to complete approximately 4.5km of the 18km run.
Entry fees are $30.00 per individual entrant or $100.00 for each team. All proceeds raised from the event will go to aid the Mary Valley Heritage Railway Museum to assist with the expansion of its operations to enable it to achieve its ultimate aim to operate steam trips seven days a week.
All entrants will receive a commemorative T-shirt, sponsor products and entry into the lucky draws. In addition, the first 300 entrants will receive a trip aboard the Valley Rattler from the old Gympie Railway Station to the start of the race at Dagun.
The Event will commence at 8.00 am with the departure of the Valley Rattler from the old Gympie Railway Station with the entrants on board. Supporters can follow the Race by purchasing a supporters ticket for $15 (Children $7.50) which entitles them to a bus ride leaving at the same time as the train, to meet the train and the runners at the start at Dagun. The supporters will then board the train to race and support the runners back to Gympie, the Race starting at 9.30 am at the Dagun railway crossing. Relay shuttle buses will take the team members to the changeover points, and then pick up from the changeover points and take them to the finish line.
The course follows the Mary Valley Road with a 4 km detour along gravel road to keep in touch with the Rattler. The finish will be at the old Gympie Railway Station.

IMPORTANT RACE DETAILS
Start/Finish
Start at the railway crossing at Dagun. Finish on the platform at the Old Gympie Railway Station.
Course
The course is 18.5km long starting at Dagun and following the Mary Valley Road with a 4km detour along a gravel road to keep in touch with the train to Gympie.
Medical Support
Please clearly print on the back of your race number details of any medical conditions you have that may effect you during the event. An ambulance will follow the runners. St. Johns officers will be in attendance at the finish.
Training/Hydration
Please note that inadequate training, failure to pace yourself and disregard for the importance of taking fluids has resulted in life threatening conditions such as heat stroke and dehydration, in both experienced and first time runners. Ensure that you are adequately prepared and take fluids at the water stations throughout the run.
Relay Teams
Each team member has to complete approximately 4.5km of the 18.5km run. All four members must wear the same numbered chest number. Relay shuttle buses will take team members to the changeover points, then pick up from the changeover points, and take to the finish line.
Parking
Parking will be available at the Old Gympie Railway Station. Rail (for the first 300 entrants only) and bus transport will be provided for all competitors to take them to the race start and relay changeover points.
Gear
A trailer will be available at Dagun for your gear. Please label your gear with your race number and name. The trailer will return to Gympie for you to collect your gear at the end of the race. You must present your race number to collect your gear. All care but no responsibility for your gear.
Supporters
Supporters can follow the race by purchasing a supporters ticket for $15 adults and $7.50 children (GST inclusive) which entitles you to a bus ride from the Old Gympie Railway Station to the start at Dagun. You then board the train to race/support the runners back to the Old Gympie Railway Station. Limit of 300 supporters tickets so get in early.
Race Confirmation
Race confirmation will be mailed out as they are processed.

Extra T-shirts will be for sale at the finish.
Results
Results will be available online within the week.
Prizes
Prizes and random draws will be awarded at the presentation ceremony to be held at 12 noon at the Old Gympie Railway Station.
